- It's important that you have the latest version of DirectX and graphics drivers installed!
- If you're using Windows Vista or 7, you should try disabling UAC. More information can be found here.
- Installing the latest updates for your operating system is always a good idea and can also resolve some of your issues. Same thing goes for shutting down or disabling any non-crucial applications running in the background, especially anti-virus software, as they might interfere with your games. Try it and see if it helps.

How to Import Cities from Cities XL or Cities XL 2011?
If you have a version of Cities XL 2011 or Cities XL 2012, your saves are directly accessible in Cities XL Platinum, as your 2 versions share the same installation folder. If you have already created cities in the original edition of Cities XL™ (2009), they are compatible with your version of Cities XL Platinum, but you have to import them manually in your new version.
To do so, please open the following folder:
For Windows XP:
- C:\Documents and Settings\[Your username**]\Local Settings\Application Data\ Monte Cristo\Cities XL***
Copy all files and folders of this folder into the saves folder of Cities XL Platinum like below.
- C:\Documents and Settings\[Your username**]\Local Settings\Application Data\ Focus Home Interactive\Cities XL 2012***
For Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8:
- C:\Users\[Your username**]\AppData\Monte Cristo\Cities XL***
Please copy all files and folders of this folder into the saves folder of Cities XL Platinum like below.
- C:\Users\[Your username**]\AppData\Focus Home Interactive\Cities XL 2012***
**the user name or administrator of your computer.
***the AppData folder is a hidden folder. You need to authorize the hidden folders display on your computer to see it.
Note: The trophies feature (see chapter 3.5) is not retroactive with cities from the original edition.
Note: The trade feature is compatible with cities imported from Cities XL™ 2009 and your cities will appear with the new ones in the Trade menu.
WARNING: If you have created cities using mods, we do not guarantee the functionalities of these cities after export to CITIES XL™ Platinum.

Cities XL Platinum D3dx9_41.dll Error Fix

Cities XL Platinum Crashes, Crash at Menu, Crash on Launching, Crashing while Playing – Fix
Solution 1: Disable all unnecessary background applications before starts Cities XL Platinum, especially browser flash-based games. These heavily consume resources which can slow down your gaming experience and just to be sure that nothing is conflicting with Cities XL Platinum. Try these steps to close hidden applications.
Click Start > Run > type msconfig > Click the Startup tab > Click Disable All button > Apply > OK, and restart your computer.
Solution 2: Delete the all temporary files from your computer by donning this
Click Start > Run > type %temp% > OK > click Edit > Select All > Delete.
Solution 3: Disable your anti-virus programs and sure to re-enable them after playing.

To enable the 3GB switch on Windows Vista™ or Windows 7:
- Right-click Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
- At the command prompt, enter “bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072?
- Restart the computer.

To disable the 3GB switch:
- Right-click on Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
- At the command prompt, enter “bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa”
- Restart the computer.
Solution 8: Last Ditch Solution: Update your BIOS (for advanced users only! If this is your first time doing this, be sure to read your motherboard documentation to avoid bricking your PC so try it at your own Risk!!!)
Antivirus Detecting Virus in Cities XL Platinum
Solution: Update your virus definitions. This is a false positive and there is no virus in Cities XL Platinum or read the virus issues guide here.

Cities XL Platinum has No Sound, Sound Error, Sound Problems and Sound Stuttering Fix
Solution 1: First of all, make sure you have installed or updated DirectX.
Solution 2: Reduce Sound Acceleration by following these steps: Click Start>Run>Type dxdiag>Press Enter> Select the sound tab and Reduce Sound Acceleration
Solution 3: Update your Sound Card Driver.
Solution 4: If you are experiencing no sound or sound stuttering, run Cities XL Platinum with Stereo Sound.
Solution 5: If you're using Realtek audio drivers, updating to the latest available drivers usually solves the problems. In case you have Realtek sound card on board, you may experience disappearance of sound while playing Cities XL Platinum. In that case try uninstalling the sound drivers and running Cities XL Platinum on default sound drivers, see if you the sound comes back if it doesn’t try updating your sound card drivers. In case you are on Windows Vista you may want to change your audio channel to “Stereo”. In order to do that:
Go to Control Panel>Sound> in “Playback Options” tab, select the current device you use for your sound and select “Configure”. Now change your audio channel to “Stereo”.
Solution 6: You can run Cities XL Platinum in 44k Stereo settings. For Change Settings (In Realtek) Go to Sound Manager>Properties>Advanced Settings here you can change the settings.

Possible Solution 5: If your game installed on external hard drive so, copy Steam.exe and Cities XL Platinum files from your external hard drive to C:\. Launch Steam.exe as administrator and let it update.
Solution 6: Verify Cities XL Platinum cache for errors. If there are corrupted files, try reinstalling Cities XL Platinum.
Solution 7: There could be corrupted dll files. Navigate to \Steam\steamapps\common\ Cities XL Platinum \bin, then either delete everything in that folder or rename it to bin_old. After that Verify your game cache and it should re-download the dll’s.
