Laptops With Nvidia Optimus Technology

Laptops with Optimus technology have dual graphic cards, an integrated Intel HD as the main GPU, and an Nvidia GPU as the secondary.

When running the Tera on some of these systems we noticed that the technology wouldn't switch over to the Nvidia card like it was supposed to. This caused for some players to experience the following issues:

  • Black screens when starting up Tera.
  • Intel HD graphics will be set as Primary for the 3D application.
  • Possible crash of Tera.

Those drivers can be download directly from the Nvidia site.

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Here's a link to Nvidia's site for more information on Optimus technology:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/optimus_technology.html

Note: Lot of laptop manufacturers will modify drivers to only work on their systems. Installing a non-modified driver could potentially cause some compatibility issues. I recommend that you contact your laptop manufacturer before attempting to update the driver to ensure that this update will not hurt your system in any way.

Problem 1: TERA Crash on Launching, Crashing while Playing

Possible Solution 1: Reseting all the graphic settings to low and removing anti-aliasing seems to have solved the problem.

Possible Solution 2: Disable all unnecessary background applications before starts the game, especially browser flash-based games. These heavily consume resources which can slow down your gaming experience and just to be sure that nothing is conflicting with the game. Try these steps to close hidden applications.

Click Start > Run > type msconfig > Click the Startup tab > Click Disable All button > Apply > OK, and restart your computer.

Possible Solution 3: Delete the all temporary files from your computer by donning this
Click Start > Run > type %temp% > OK > click Edit > Select All > Delete.

Possible Solution 4: Disable your anti-virus programs and sure to re-enable them after playing.

Possible Solution 5: Alt + Tab out of the game and check if there is any windows firewall or any other

Possible Solution 6: Download the latest version of your DirectX from Here.

Possible Solution 7: Update you Graphic Card Drivers, for NVidia Graphic Cards, try to download and install the NVidia Latest Driver Version and for AMD (ATI) Graphic Cards, try download and installing the AMD Catalyst.

Possible Solution 8: After the updating the graphic cards and didn’t solve the issue then try to rollback your video card by downloading an earlier version of your video card’s current driver.

Possible Solution 9: If you have a multi-core processor, try disabling them, it might do the trick!

Possible Solution 10: Enable the 3GB switch to - worked for many as of May 18, but please note this is still not a guaranteed solution.

To enable the 3GB switch on Windows Vista™ or Windows 7:

Right-click Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.

At the command prompt, enter “bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072?

Restart the computer.

(If it doesn’t work)

To disable the 3GB switch:

Right-click on Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.

At the command prompt, enter “bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa”

Restart the computer.

Possible Solution 11: Last Ditch Solution: Update your BIOS (for advanced users only! If this is your first time doing this, be sure to read your motherboard documentation to avoid bricking your PC so try it at your own Risk!!!)

Problem 2: Antivirus Detecting Virus in TERA.exe

Possible Solution: Update your virus definitions. This is a false positive and there is no virus in the game.

Problem 3: TERA Crash to Desktop (CTD) and Blackscreen Fix

Possible Solution 1: Run the game by Right click on TERA.exe and select “Run as Administrator”.

Possible Solution 2: Run the game in compatibility with Windows XP SP3.

Possible Solution 3: Also, you can try to lower the game’s settings by disabling VSync and multi-sampling and turning down environment detail levels.

Possible Solution 4: Try to Update Your Graphics Cards and Motherboard Drivers.

Possible Solution 5: Try different resolution options on your PC.

Possible Solution 6: For NVidia users, go into NVidia control panel and add TERA.exe and make it "use NVidia GPU" to resolve this issue. And also try this, go to NVidia control panel and check if TERA.exe has to instances. If there are two instances, set both to use your specific GPU instead of automatic.

Possible Solution 7: Reseting all the graphic settings to low and removing anti-aliasing seems to have solved the problem.

Problem 4: TERA has No Sound, Sound Error, Sound Problems and Sound Stuttering Fix

Possible Solution 1: Reduce Sound Acceleration by following these steps: Click Start>Run>Type dxdiag>Press Enter> Select the sound tab and Reduce Sound Acceleration

Possible Solution 2: Update your Sound Card Driver.

Possible Solution 3: If you are experiencing no sound or sound stuttering, run the game with Stereo Sound.

Possible Solution 4: If you're using Realtek audio drivers, updating to the latest available drivers usually solves the problems. In case you have Realtek sound card on board, you may experience disappearance of sound while playing the game. In that case try uninstalling the sound drivers and running the game on default sound drivers, see if you the sound comes back if it doesn’t try updating your sound card drivers. In case you are on Windows Vista you may want to change your audio channel to “Stereo”. In order to do that:

Go to Control Panel>Sound> in “Playback Options” tab, select the current device you use for your sound and select “Configure”. Now change your audio channel to “Stereo”.

Possible Solution 5: You can run TERA in 44k Stereo settings. For Change Settings (In Realtek) Go to Sound Manager>Properties>Advanced Settings here you can change the settings.

Problem 5: TERA won’t install because Anti-virus software has detected a threat/virus

Possible Solution 1: Disable your anti-virus. Be sure to turn it back on after playing.

Possible Solution 2: Add Dungeon Siege 3 to your firewall and anti-virus exceptions

Possible Solution 3: Try reinstalling your anti-virus program.

Possible Solution 4: Update your anti-virus program; be sure virus definitions are updated

Problem 6: TERA Crashes During or after the loading screen

Possible Solution 1: Disable your antivirus programs. Be sure to turn them back on after playing.

Possible Solution 2: Manually add TERA for PC to your antivirus or firewall exceptions list.

Possible Solution 3: Reseting all the graphic settings to low and removing anti-aliasing seems to have solved the problem.

Problem 7: TERA Low FPS, Freezing and Bad Frame-rate Fix

Possible Solution 1: On the Maximum FPS Foreground Option its set to 150. If you change this to 60 the game works less on making FPS and is less of a load on your GPU and CPU this will keep the cap at 60 FPS and hence give you more FPS regardless if you only get 20-30 at more times you will still see an improvement in FPS.

If you are hitting 60 with this new cap you can also turn off V-Sync to keep it high FPS during more intense action. But at the cost of screen tearing. Also for Nvidia users if you go to the Nvidia control panel.

3D Settings> Manage 3D Settings> Global tab or if you want to go to Programs and select TERA > Maximum Pre-rendered Frames > Change that to 3 it also gives a slight FPS boost.

Unsure on AMD/ATI cards on the setting to do this.

Prior to changing these settings I couldn't get over 40 FPS with the recommended settings. Now I can max it shadows and all and get 60 FPS. This also eliminated my Stuttering issues.

Problem 8: TERA Low FPS, Freezing and Bad Frame-rate Fix

Problem 9: TERA "Failed to create D3D device” Error Fix

Possible Solution 1: Install or Update DirectX to the latest version. This is usually encountered if you didn't install the bundled DirectX drivers when you installed the game.

Possible Solution 2: Update your video card drivers of NVidia/ATI/IntelHD from official download sites, and try installing their Beta drivers too.

Problem 10: TERA.exe Has Stopped Responding Fix

Possible Solution: Try rolling back (downgrading to a previous version) your video card drivers and see if this will resolve the issue. Usually this is a problem with experimental beta drivers from NVidia or ATI.

Problem 11: TERA Error: 000b0000 DirectX Initialization failure

Possible Solution: TERA uses features of DirectX9. To resolve this problem, reinstall your directX9.
An actual version can be found here.

Problem 12: TERA You can login neither in the browser nor in the client

Problem 14: TERA XmlLite.dll could not be found

Possible Solution: You are missing the XmlLite.dll file, which can be added rather easily: Follow These Steps:

1: First you have to download this dll-file.

2: Copy it into you “C:/Windows/System32/”

3: Restart the game

Problem 15: TERA Error: 0111:0001 General failure - TERA Launcher Error

Possible Solution: You’ll just have to wait this one out, as it is displayed when our servers are offline. Refer to the actual news for more information.

1: Delete the file "gl.version"

2: Start "TERA-Launcher.exe"

3: Now the launcher updates itself

4: After patching, one is able to use the play button

Possible Solution 2: There seems to be a problem with a folder in your TERA-directory. You’ll have to reinstall the game into your TERA directory.

Problem 17: TERA Download Error Detected

Possible Solution: If your launcher only downloaded a small file, but won't start the main download, you'll have to use this fix.

Download this small Tera bug fix setup and run it.

Please note that the setup is in German. I've uploaded some screens with a translated setup.

Problem 18: TERA Source Delivers Incorrect Files, No Secure Source Found, Error With The HTTP-Client-Transfer, Error While Downloading The Manifest-File, Sudden Speed-Decrease While Downloading

Possible Solution 1: To fix this problem follow these steps:

1: Start the TERA-Launcher

2: Go to “Launcher Settings”

3: Turn “P2P sharing” OFF

Possible Solution 2: Or try this solution: Follow these steps:

1: Click “Start” – “Control Panel”

2: Now on “Network and sharing center”

3: On the left select “Change adapter settings”

4: Now select your adapter (WLAN or LAN depending how you are connected to your router) and click on “Properties”

5: Uncheck “Internet protocol 6 (TCP/IPv6)”

6: Then select “Internet protocol 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and click on “Properties”

7: Choose “Use the following DNS server addresses”

8: Now enter “8.8.8.8” above, “8.8.4.4” below

9: Click on “ok” and restart your PC.

Problem 19: TERA Launcher update problem

Symptoms:

The launcher downloads an update to the folder TERA-Launcher.exe.update folder

It then closes the launcher so it can overwrite files in the main game folder with the TERA-Launcher.exe.update folder's files.

This is where it goes wrong; it tries to overwrite the files but for some reason the files are in use and can't overwrite them, so the update never completes, although it deletes the TERA-Launcher.exe file from the main folder.

Possible Solution: Having done this now countless times I feel, this has worked every time.

1: Copy/Cut the files from the TERA-Launcher.exe.update folder to the main game folder.

2: Delete the TERA-Launcher.exe.update folder.

3: Rerun the launcher

When trying to do this it is important to note that this might yield an error message saying that the files is already in use, just keep trying for a minute or two and it should sort it self out.

Problem 20: TERA Error: 000a:0000 insufficient memory

This error appears when there is not enough space available on the hard disk drive of the computer that TERA is being installed on. You will temporarily need around 50 GB of free disk space. Once the download and installation is complete, the client will have a size of roughly 24 GB.

If you continue to experience the same error message after determining that you have plenty of hard drive space, please go through the following steps to resolve the issue.

Possible Solution: For the solution follow these steps:

Use the repair option in the TERA game launcher

The repair option can resolve many common issues including TERA crashing, failing to launch, or in-game graphical issues.

Here’s how it works:

1: Double click your TERA Launcher to start it.

2: Sign into the TERA Launcher.

3: Click Launcher Settings.

In the Repair your installation section, click the Click here to begin repair button.

When you run the repair program, the launcher will check all of your game files and repair any potentially damaged or corrupted files.

For Windows7, 32-bit Users:

Since TERA consumes a high amount of memory when it’s running, it automatically lowers the texture resolution to conserve memory. Even if you have over 4 GB of hardware memory, if your computer runs on a 32-bit operating system, the game may exceed the Memory Limit as the computer is only allowed to use 2 GB.

Problem 21: TERA Game Execution Failure Error: 0113:0002

If you encounter a game execution failure while trying to run TERA, this may be due to:

Possible Solution 1: For the solution follow these steps:

1: Missing or conflicting Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages.

2: Your anti-virus or firewall is denying or restricting TERA.

3: Important TERA files are missing, corrupt or have been moved.

Possible Solution 2: To resolve this problem please:

1: Download and install Microsoft's latest Visual C++ packages.

2: Turn off your anti-virus completely and restart the game. Add TERA.exe and TL.exe to your anti-virus programme’s exception list, so you can maintain an active firewall without blocking access to TERA and causing functionality issues.

3: Use the Repair option in the launcher to attempt to recover missing and corrupt files.

Problem 22: TERA General failure: Error: 0111:0001

The General failure: Error: 0111:0001 message usually appears when the servers are currently unavailable.

Possible Solution: It is not possible to play the game outside of the indicated opening times. The servers might not be available at the time you are trying to get into TERA.

In case you still can't get into TERA, check whether TERA is added to the trusted programs of your firewall and antivirus program

Also update your version of DirectX, as well as your graphic art and main board driver.

Problem 23: TERA Play Button In The Game Client Does Not Work

Run the Repair function of your TERA launcher

Possible Solution 1: To solve this problem follow these steps:

1: Click the option Launcher Settings below the Play button.

2: In the Repair your installation section, then select the Click here to Begin Repair button.

Delete the gl.version file from your game client folder

Possible Solution 2: Follow these steps

1: Click the Start button or Windows icon.

2: Select Computer.

3: Choose the drive where TERA has been installed. The default drive is Local Disk (C:)

4: Open the Program Files (x86) folder if you are running a 64bit version of windows or Program Files if you are running a32 bit version.

5: Open the TERA folder.

6: Search for the gl.version file and delete it.

Now restart the TERA Launcher. Once the patch process is complete, the Play button should be active and work normally.

Possible Solution 3: If you still have trouble with the Play button, please run following fix.

Problem 24: TERA Client crash Fix

Possible Solution: If the client crash you should to do the following:

1: Check your specs against the miniumum and recommended system requirements

2: Test your PC for viruses using your antivirus software of choice.

3: Check if the firewall on your system or router allows the client to make connections.

4: Contact our support team and include information about your problem, especially WHEN it happened:
